89 325I, When its cold the engine is lumpy, and then when it is warm it is slightly hesitant. I thought it may be the auto choke, oh also when it is warm it can take longer to start as well.

had this on my 318i could be Idle Control Valve. This is the right symptoms for this and it will only get worse!
My 325i occasionally takes a few secs to catch when warm, i know of others that do this too, but i don't know what it is that causes this, but at a guess i wouldn't say they are related

It isn't the auto choke. It doesn't have one - these belong to carb. engines, not EFI.
First thing is to change the engine water temp sensor on the thermostat housing. Cheap and easy to change.

The car idles steady warm or cold, its just when i am pulling away from standstill that it is lumpy and so i have to rev it a little bit more. The revs dont surge up or down, just the engine is lumpy.

Is it a missfire? If so, then distributor cap and rotor arm.

No, no missfire just a lumpy engine untill it is warm and then just slightly hesitant. The lumpiness when cold is like when a ht lead is down, but is better when the engine is warm, so it cant be a lead or cap.

While we are on the topic of engines i wondered if anyone could enlighten me with my problem.
When i start my sport it idles very high and can drop and then rise again. From the info on the forum it looks to be my ICV but is there a way to test it before i spend Ԛ£80+ on a new one?

You can clean them with carb cleaner, don't use WD40! I have two spares, both functioning correctly for Ԛ£10 each including p&p if anyone is interested.

webbyv7slipperwagon, I felt that your topic also involved my problem so just asked for more information which could help BOTH of us.
Instead of having a pop at me how about checking your Idle Control Valve
