Hi all,

Can anybody inform me of gains in hp as a result of using either Schirk or Bilas cams? And what extra needs to be done to make this setup work. Have on optio of a set which gives 10.7 lift where std is 10.2. Also I guess I should change springs to compensate for the exrta lift/force?

Im going to rebuilt my engine and I was thinkin bout changing the cams for a beefier pair, but there is many choise out there....and since cams are new to me, my mechanical skills comes from restoring 2-stroke yamaha race bikes, i really could use feedback.

I found Bilas,Schrick, ACschnitzer and Kent cams. The ACschnitzers lists 150hp, but dunno if they are still for sale...
Bilas and Schrick have many different cam profiles..but no hp listings

I dont want a "only works on the track" engine, but gaining about 15-20 hp would be welkom. I dont mind changing camsprings either.

Hmm, you dont believe this.....has anybody in the states ever heared of JRP JOHNSTON RESEARCH & PERFORMANCE INC,,GLEN BURNIE (MARYLAND) ??
http://www.jrponline.com/

They are distributer of a company called CatCams, which is based in Belgium, right around the corner from where I live! However none of them state any Hp gains when switching to different cams.
Can anybody see and explain the different in cam profile if I paste the specs of the Catcam in here?

Hi

I have looked at cat cams for my m42, putting hp to any perforamce component is BS as far as i am concerned as these things are rarely done in isolation.

I have spoken to cat cams, decent guys, they speak engilsh okay, see what they reckomend.

A lot of s14 guys rate there cams

Yeas ill give em a call this week and see what they recommend and ill post it here.
The new cam will go together with chip, exhaust heater, lightent flywheel,air-filter and airshield. Was also thinking about insulating the enire air-intake section to cool intake air down (or actually prevent heating up)...
Anyhow ill keep this topic updated

I think the milder CatCams are regrinds whilst those higher spec than is atainable from the originals, are machined from a blank (hence are more expensive)

Don't quote me, like.

PS I think Poven Products are the UK dealers for CatCams

Also: You can use the solid lifters and shims from an S50, and quite possibly the valve springs. Perfect partners for higher spec cams and would help allow you to rev a lot higher..

Sorry dude, I can't be more specific. I'd just started finding out details about M42 tuning (I have a 318is) but thought 'sod it' and went and got an s50b32 instead of getting oily.

Shameful.

Perhaps I'll keep the M42 engine for a garden shed development. That way I can pretend I'm still an engineer and not a cheque book beemer driver...

If you find anything out, post it up.. I'm still interested!

Quality engineered parts is UK catcams dealer, they cut them all from blank and dont want your old cam, for £190, and they said they would do custom spec cam aswell for the same price just tell them about your engine.

Will G you go a phone number or a link to this quality engineered parts.

Ԛ£190 is well cheap for blanks i found Ԛ£232 for regrinds to 280/280 but only if it was running MS or piggyback :D
