head gasket

my 2.1 will have an 86.6mm bore, the biggest bmw headgasket circa 86mm, do you guys reckon i should go for a custom one? the engine shop reckon it's a close call and that a standard one might work as long as it doesn't get pinched much inside the cyl.
.6mm diameter isn't a lot, but i want to do things right. Where might i be able to get a custom one? could the standard one be modded slightly?
current thinking is to try a standard one and see how i go, i'm not over the moon about having to do it again if it doesn't work well and having the car unusable until sorted.
opinions/advice etc appreciated! this engine is such a headache.

Ferriday engineering will make you a custom one but they aint cheap and normally copper, although they may be able to source others. I'm no expert but most opinions on copper is it's easy to mess up, so not good for me for sure

Other than that this country sucks for uprated HG for e30's, mine are coming in from either US or Sweden, just trying to persude PPF to let me have one of there special ones

ah, interesting. cometic lsit 86 and 85mm ones in their catalogue, i wonder whether i can go bigger. i might just try an m44 gasket on for now and see how it goes.

std item should be fine dude, the combustion chamber is still shaped for the stock bore sizes anyway I assume ?

ah cheers ant. yeah the combustion chamber is still standard dia.
i've never used a HG thats not bigger than the bore before, the engine shop weren't 100% either. is there a risk of it getting pinched and squeezed out a bit into the bore - if you see what i mean (ok, not the greatest explanation, but hopefully you get the idea!)? i guess its only 0.6mm dia. different.

on another totally unrelated note, ant, you any ideas on the last email i sent you (easytherm MS stuff again, think i'm asking for trouble sharing sensors with the motronic...)?! sorry to be a pita!
