I got KwikFit to exchange my Scorpion back box for a standard one, because I wanted a quieter exhaust. ItÔš's a bit quieter overall, but itÔš's still loud, and boomey at the lower rev range.

The front section is a Ԛ“SilentԚâ€a box from EuroCarParts. It says itÔš's a two-piece system. I explained to KwikFit that is was a two piece system, but their book only showed one system, which was in three sections (from what I recall). When we looked under the car, it was in fact in three bits Ԛ—a the middle bit, were just pipe extentions to the Scorpian box (the front section has a small silencer box). So KwikFit just replaced the rear box.

Why is it so loud? My 320i sounds sooo much quieter. ItÔš's the booming thatÔš's the worst bit, at very low revs.

probably because it is a cheap copy - 'standard' is one thing, but O/E is the exhaust to fit.

It sounds like this is too-late-advice for you, but I believe the make is Boysen(?) and you can certainly get the O/E BMW exhaust from www.motormec.co.uk

It releases the most power/torque (bar the very expensive Alpina system I believe?) and yet sounds quiet in normal driving, and fantastic when pushed

...it will also last 15 years, rather than lasting 1-day-more-than-warranty which is usual for exhausts from Kwick-fit (allegedly) :D
