Easiest way of getting the main unit out of the dash is with the right sized screwdriver from the stereo hole & glovebox... You'll only really manage that if you know where the screws are though, so for the first time & on a scrapper, just get the panel that it sits in out. Brute force works well here!

You also need the loom that goes to the instrument cluster, the indicator stalk, the temp sensor loom (temp sensor's in the airduct at the front left of the car), & the gong (in the panel under the steering column - might as well get the panel too!). The main loom unplugs from the temp sensor, somewhere behind the glovebox, but make sure you get both bits!

'Optional' bits are the immobiliser ECU (by the main ECU) and the immobiliser horn. I say optional because I didn't bother with them - I have another immobiliser fitted anyway. If you want them though, grab the ECU, & the horn is on the same loom as the temp sensor. If you don't want the horn, just cut the wire off (once you've worked out which branch goes to the temp sensor & which to the horn) & save yourself the bother! If you're not messing around with the immobiliser, you don't have to make a load of connections behind the glovebox either. It's all pretty straightforward once you work out which bit's which...

Having typed all that, I just remembered there's a guide in the tech articles section. Ah well!

Haha, I removed a 13 OBC from a car in scrappies, I had the lot out in about 10 mins!

As Ziggy said, brute force! I just used a flat blade screw driver, and levered the heater panel out, and pulled as hard as I could

Zoner Keith52 saw the aftermath of me pulling the thing out, he was cursing me!!
