hi all
ive got a 325i touring with a tired engine and think i may be able to get hold of a 324 cranshaft (still haggling a price)but if not will get a 325e crank
so i want to know exactly what i need as i want to do it all myself and this way give the engine new life
does any1 have a guide of how to do this and will my engine rev as freely it does now
does anybody know what a standard 2.7 conversion will put out in terms of torque and bhp?
i know im asking alot but this site does have lots of know how on it

How was this 2.7 constructed?

Where in the country are you as distance makes the difference and how much?

Cheers

Hi Gorgee,my 2.7 is getting made with a 320i block bored out to 84mm, eta crankshaft. 320i conrods and 325i pistons, as to what power a standard 2.7 will give depends on alot of things, but if all goes well with the build i would say your looking at 190 -210 bhp, iam looking for 240 -250 bhp from mine, but then iam running indivisual throttle bodies, MBE stand alone managament system and a schrick 288/288 cam,6 branch and full scorpion system, i bloody well better get 240 - 250 bhp  :D

It is a complete 525e engine that I was going to use when I was going to build a 2.7 for my car, but I have now decided to go the 24valve route and have a nice M52 engine from a 328i :D

I am in Bristol dude

So its a complete engine from a 525e then with no alterations??
What is included in the sale, and how much do you want?

As it happens I live in Bristol so that gets things off to a good start.

will have to check, got to find the garage key lol

I think the engine is pretty much all there apart from Aternater, PS pump and not too sure about the inlet manifold.

The top end (cam) is noisy but this is irrelivent since you won't be using the head anyway as you need to use the "i" head not the eta.

If you are definatly interested let me know and I will find/aquire a garage key.

okyou have a 325, so good start, a 320 lump has the same crank as a 525e,

So

swap the crank and conrods over to your lump and get 325 or 525e pistons skimmed to the right ratio

Just ring around local scrappies and ebay is a good place but generally a bit pricier as you will probably find a complete car rather than the engine.

There was one at my local scrappy for Ԛ£90, I waited about a week before I went up with the cash to find the car had been crushed
Got given a number of a local garage and ended up forkin out Ԛ£150, but at least I knew it was a runner..not that it makes much difference in this case.

So its just a case of bolting a different head on and then I'll have a 2.7, right?

What head do I need?

Also will I need anything else?

Finally, PRICE???

Not that simple..

My basic machining cost was Ԛ£240+vat for the work actually needed to make this combination work.

Final cost of machining though was more than double that, I gave them sh*t loads more work to do to make sure things were perfect.. to tell you my secrets would cost you Ԛ£800 :)

2.7 basics are:
525e crankshaft, 525e conrods.
325i block top machined. 325i pistons machined.

Then there are the extra costs of brand new bolts, bearings etc etc.

Mine is almost finished, just need to assemble it. Our (so much thanks to E30Adam!) original budget after pricing ranged from Ԛ£1100-Ԛ£1300, which has now rised to Ԛ£2000+ this was mainly due to the performance camshaft i didn't originally forecast to buy, and then of course the machining costs.
This engine consists of brand new everything, I think I can allow myself to reset my odometer to 000000 :D

An extremely low budget gets nothing near what I've paid, so don't be put off!
