Can't wait to see this run at LPS. I'm really interested to see what sort of characteristics that big diesel turbo gives.

I'm guessing that because of the relativly large exhaust housing it will come on boost quite late and may make quite good power right at the top end but will be down on the mid range grunt that you normally get with a turbo car. It may drive more like a N/A car with a really strong top end.

having played with diesel turos before i found that the turbine size / compressor size relationship was never quite right for a performance petrol vehicle.

However they seem to have had good results with diesel turbos over on that other forum.

Like i say this s the one I'm gonna be standing next to the monitor waiting for the graph to show up for!

actual inlet is still pretty small comparing it to my old T3, the GT roller bearing fitted to dips cossy is big, you can fit 2 fag packs sided by side in the inlet!!

Done :D

Having completed all and bolted it all up we discovered I'd been arse penetrated by the supplier of my wastegate, they'd not sent the valve seat, so no boost and equal discharge from exhaust and screamer pipe, F**k!! ( sounded awesome tho )

So a call, short drive to "Sarfend" and a morning spent in Lennies shed, sorted, new part turned by Lennie himself, THANKS DUDE! and some tinkering with Lennies monster while we were there, what a noise that makes :D

Venturing out for a short drive in a min, remap, and then a good 120miles home later should be enough datalog info to get it all sorted.

Will report back after I've stopped shaking

Well, home now, that was fun!!

Managed a 25min drive around the local roads with Ant, all was looking good, no boost but no wastegate issues so we found a open stretch and after a few light runs the AFRS were looking good, so I pushed 50% to in 3rd and rolled on from 40mph, 2.5k no boost, 3k, no boost, 3.5k.....boost starts rising....4K SCREAMING BANSHEE ON HEAT TYPE NOISE AND A FUCK LOAD OF POWER TILL IT BOUNCED OFF THE LIMITER!!!! The turbo DOES spool, 4k = full power and after a few laps of this and many adjustments we cruised back to check everything was ok.

Opened the bonnet, small pop and some steam started hissing out from under the inlet manifold, couldn't see anything, HG looked fine, so waited to cool down and refilled with water. After some searching we found the main water hose that runs the block from end to end and feeds the water bottle has split at one of the joins under the manifold.

So not having a replacement or able to fix it we called it a day, it'll need stripping down again to replace this pipework, can't explain how gutted I felt after all that work to yet again be let down by something that had nothing to do with what we had just changed.

BUT it DID run, boosted HARD, screamed like nothing I've ever driven and that turbo is awesome, with it spooled up you could feel the power it had right in front of you, so looking forward to that again.

Ant was there too, maybe he can explain how it felt, I know it was fast, I watched the speedo do silly things on that journey :D

hahahaha wow sounds good!not the hose :o

I start spooling @ 1800 rpms, by 2300 I hit 9psi and by 2500 I'm sitting @ 15psi, which decays to about 12psi @ 5k+.

not like this then?

Completly different now :D

foot down..nothing...2.5k.....nothing.......3k.......nothing 3.5k......spooling......4k HOLD ON FOR YOUR LIFE BABY!!!!

This isn't a everday turbo, I've realised this, it's too lairy, but it drives fine off boost, so should make a really interesting car when finished.

Now off to order some extra parts to make sure I can use all this power before I start enjoying it properly. :D

Brilliant work, but I'd cover that windscreen in the future if you're going to let loose under the bonnet with an angle grinder or welder!

Lovely work lads, big respect for this and the way you make things work. (If something doesnt fit/ work, you just design and make it yourselves).
Really like the way you just get on with it and get it done! Have to come and see this at a lakeside meet sometime.
Cant beat a bit (or in this case a lot) of boost!

Not 100% sure yet, but it's pretty certain, just cam belt cover and bolts to remove to be able to see what has happened, but no 1 and no 6 were wet and no1 had a pint of water in it!!

I've been on to suppliers for a triple layer s-steel gasket and some head studs so to avoid this again, not that I'm bothered as to be fair as it did peak at about 1.3bar!!

The more we mapped it the more boost was dialling in, we started at about 9psi and within 20mins of mapping it was showing nearly 20psi on the gauge. Didn't really have time to change anything before the hose split. So some more new bits, hopefully soon and another round of tuning.

I called the company about the missing part, on it's way in the post :D

20psi 8O how come? that wastegate is ment to open full bore as soon as you reach the limit of the spring. or did you have the manual adjuster inline?

It was Ants fault, he told me to do it

I ran the Wg as is for about 15mins, then while I burned off all the fingerprints on my right hand ( allot heat sheild gets FFFFHOT!) I added the bleed valve in at 1 turn in, so about 3psi, so I should have got 10psi. It ran about 11psi to start & then the fueling was reeled in, then I had 13psi, another few changes, 15psi, then all of a sudden the boost gauge read 1.3bar!!!

You have to know tho that at 0.7bar it felt restricted, at 1 bar it was fecking awesome, I'd hate to guess what power it felt like, but was MUCH faster than before. Been told 1.5-2bar is the best range for this turbo, so need some goodies now to enjoy that!!

arse dyno rekons Mark was wel above that threshold, I was like a raggy doll i the passenger seat, I think we both got whiplash from the power delivery once on boost

Mini Update:

Well it's been a few weeks now since the initial install of "stage 2" and although the first attempt was short lived, I'm hopeing the new combination of 12.9 head bolts and a oem 2mm gasket will be strong enough to allow me to run this turbo bang in it's highest efficient power band.

While the cars been off the road I've treated to a full set of Yoko A520's, H&R springs and many odd bits to get the through the mot.

I'd like to think that come may I'll be back on the road abd able to get some videos so you can all share this with me.

Just money and free time needed now :D
