you know the well old 3 series with the 1500cc engines
then the 80's F1 cars turbod them with a turbo that was pretty much the same size as the engine to get that wopping 1300hp

(im guessing they used short piston travel, high rpm and had loads of turbo lag)

does anyone reckon there is any of these engines still about?
i would love to have a go at trying to make one produce a good few hundred hp. even half what they got would be good!

Mental performance stats. I recall the Honda units were even more powerful though.

The blocks used were used ones from 1602's as well.
They found those more reliable than new blocks...

.....I remember reading about that..........didn't they reach the conclusion that 60,000 miles was the the point at which the blocks reached "maturity!?? 8)
60% of the time it works........every time !!!

used blocks were left out side, open and exposed to the elements, if the didnt fuck up by then they were good enough. power was never actuslly recorded ar bmw dyno only whent to 1200hp!!!

in one race piquet cranked up the boost, the reconed it was puching 1500 hp, but never prooven. arguably the most powerful F1 engine ever produced. the car was so quick they banned it soon after !!!

These babys had a specially designed Apfellbrock semi demodronic double cam cylinder head, vey similar modern Ducati motorbikes. I'll try and dig out an article I have about the apfellbrock C/H. You may find this interesting too.
