as above. is it the cable or is it more likely to be a weak spring? i have to lift the pedal with my hand to bring it back to idle. it idles at about 2500rpm if i don't. would disconnecting the cable and pouring some 3 in 1 oil down it cure it or do you think i'll need a replacement spring or cable?
cheers.

first of all i would take off the t,b (throttle body,) and give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner,
put it back on attach the cable but undo it a little so it is a bit slack, start the car and if it idle's too low then simply tighten up the cable till your idle is set correctly,

and make sure there is nothing sitting/resting on the cable making it stick :)

Take the rubber intake boot off the throttle body so you can see the butterfly and pop the cable from the linkage. With your hand moving the linkage, make sure the TB moves freely and closes all the way - if not then clean it up as craigieeb said.

The cables can either get slightly kinked and stick or just start sticking over time, normally from a build up of crap inside. Its worth replacing for the price of a new one.
