Ok After all the drama of fixing my leaking a/c box, now its not working. I hit the switch and the blower starts going but no light and no compressor running. I did unplug the switch before this happened but there seems to be nothing wrong with it. I have only just replaced the low pressure switch on the system cause that died. Very similar symptoms to that problem. Could the new switch have died? What do you guys reckon. It was a brand new BMW OEM switch. Catchya!

Ohh coudl be thousands of things!! first check fuse 20. Then with engine off and ignition fully on turn on the fan and push the A/C button. you should hear a fairly audible click this click will be your A/C clutch engaging (you cant hear it with engine running) if that loud click is there then your compressor is comming on. if it is then could be bad news cause it most likely means yourve allowed the froen gas to escape which along to contributing to global warming will also mean the leak must be found (using a halon gas detector) then fixed and your system re-charged which depending on where you are in the world will be expensisve! but no click then it is electrical. check this site so kindly provided by brianmooooore the BM electrical god and check it out yourself. Lastly do you have your heat controls set to hot??? obvious but could be overlooked as the simple solutions often are

Dont forget the A/C will only run with the facia vents set to open(on the sliders), I forgot in mine once and after a strip and check session found i'd set them all to "off" DOh

This is correct for the early E30's, but all facelift cars with A/C do not need this to operate.
The A/C kit I got from Martin did not have the contacts on the sliders, and the wiring has no connection for this.
I actually replaced the slider assy as some of the plastic was broken on the original. The new slider assy did have the contacts included, but they are only used on the early cars.
Cheers,
Ian.
If it aint broke - Modify it...

Ok, I found the problem. Dodgy electrical work from the previous owner. They had a jumper on the end of this connector that had come loose with my fiddling around. I have just done a quick 'join the wires' dodgy fix myself. I'll clean it up properly one day. Thanks for your help.
