Had some new wheels fitted yesterday and now notice a ticking noise when the handbrake is fully off, If a put a cloth underneath to raise a 1/2 inch or so the noise goes.
Any ideas, it was fine before the wheel change.

Thanks.

does the noise come from the handbrake area ?

i changed my wheels and i get a ticking noise from the rear wheel drum when the car is moving..

i will try to move my handbrake up a little and see if the noise goes away..

is your handbrake cable loose?

Check that the handbrake shoe retaining pins on the backplate haven't come loose. This area gets very rusty making the peg locating hole larger each time these retainers are removed.
Chances are one has come loose.

if you have locking wheel nuts you may find the thread on the locking nut is longer than the other wheel nuts, take the locking one off and another normal one and compare. if the locking one is longer then it will need any excess grinding off. The longer thread catches on the edge of the shoe.

I had this problem after handrbake shoe replacement and it baffled me & the old man for a day until he sussed it.

Pulling the handbrake up a click did remove the noise

I had same problem after new handbrake shoes, Again it was caused by the slighty longer locking wheel bolts.

i had same ticking noise due to wheel nuts being too long.

also ruined the brake shoes inside the disk :(

wont make that mistake again

Thank's for that, it hasn't got locking wheel nut's but has 10mm spacers fitted, must be the bolt's being too long. Will take it back tomorrow.
Cheers.
