I am planning to swap the transmission from automatic to manual. But in our region (Hong Kong, Asia), it is so rare to find a E30 325i for scrap. Even found one, don't even think that it would be a MT car.
How much for a used MT gearbox in UK? Other than the gearbox, do I need to swap the engine also? any accessories are required (probably the engine management computer)?
Anyone has the idea about the shipping cost?

Hi

You would need the following:

manual gearbox with master cylinder
clutch kit
spigot bearing
clutch resovior & connecting pipes
possibly new prop doughnut
manual prop would make things easier
pedel box with slave cylinder

You can buy the whole 5 spd swap kit from these guys

http://www.theeurodepot.com/specials.html

They're legitimate, many NA e30ers have bought from them. I'm going to buy from them once I scrounge up enough for the job. I have no idea how much shipping would be to HK though.

I sold a brilliant condition 325i gearbox for Ԛ£30 over here so dependent on shipping you should be able to do it cheap. If you are really interested for a small fee I would source and ship you an E30 box and anyother bits you need, I might even be breaking a car with all the parts you need in 3 weeks time.

I have converted two of my e30s using the kit from euro depot and it went smoothly you only need a few nuts and bolts when you break an old one. if you want a shop to do it for you it should cost around $1000, i saved some coin by doing it myself

:D
Thanks alot for all of your advice.

Hi Widge,
Quite interested, how much for the whole kit? How's the condition of all items (especially the gearbox), are they good or not? For your information, mine is a 92 made 325i conv. .

For the shipping, I might arrange it by myself.

Cheers

Umm, well I haven't got the breaker yet, and I may be needing a gearbox my self  but as the parts are quite common over here I could find everything you need quite easily.
But I will do some research in to howmuch good second hand parts are here and com back to you with a fair price that you can add shipping to and see if it is competative for you over there, or if you should just source the parts overe there etc...

Thanks again
I'm not sure if I can search any MT parts for E30 in here as most of the E30 in HK are AT and most of them had been scraped already.

OK no problems.
These parts I would suggest you replace/ use new parts, these are the prices from euro car parts, I could buy them and include them in the shipment.
master cylinder Ԛ£25.00
clutch kit Ԛ£96.00
spigot bearing Ԛ£3.80
prop doughnut Ԛ£17.50
slave cylinder Ԛ£24.50
Total :- Ԛ£166 = $2,248.59 HK (according to XE.com!!)

On top of that would be the gearbox from a breaker, and the pedal box, + some pipes and things like the clutch fluid reservoir and it's bracket, and you would need the flywheel, and gear box linkage, manual gearstick and manual centre console surround, for that factory manual look.
If you are interested drop me an email at widgeewo@btinternet.com and we'll talk. Just ou tof interest how would you go about shipping it? It would all neatley fit on a palate.
