took off the inlet manifold gaskets this evening, as dips wanted them changed.
the job is up there, ranking as one of the toughest jobs we've encountered.
there's a row of 10mm bolts on the bottom half of each manifold that were bast**ds to get out, and they've got to go back in yet!
Image

whilst we had them off, we removed the rocker cover's to investigate a 'tapping' from the rockers, and found two lobes of one cam were shot

your telling me ant, how the fcuk do they do it at the dealers , is there a speacial tool to reach the 10mm bolts, half way along the first manifold that you decide to remove? the second manifold isn't half as bad, but the first one is enough to make you want to eat your young!

There is a special tool to get the inlet manifold nuts on and off. It is like a 1/4 drive long extention with a 10mm socket blended into the bar which is magnetic. Also dont forget to replace the gasket ontop of the block between the valleys while its apart.

Been searching for After Market ones and havent come accross anything yet.

Did look into Alpina Cams but they wont deal with me without a Chassis number and Car number.

Spoke to Kent Cams and they may be able to reprofile it - Glenn - can it be dont in the state its in? If its saveable then your looking around Ԛ£300 for a reprofile.

850 cams- Ԛ£1400 roughly.

If aftermarket ones arent available then its a case of going to the scrappies and finding a good set which I doubt will be easy.

Hi

If you want a custom regrind go to newman cams, dave some BMW stuff he does not list on his catalouge, the has m20 blanks. I wonder how close these are to the v12 as i think the block archtecture is based on the m50 witch means the bore spacing may be clsoe to the m20.

I'm thinking he could get another two engines for that?

Serious PITA on the cam front - I hope it gets worked out.

As soon as it's running, you have to do two video clips (with sound) - one with and one without the exhaust attached 8)
