Following on from a couple of recent discussions about what tyres to fit to 15" BBS now you cant get the Eagle F1s in 205/55 R15
Somw tyre ratings from http://www.pneus-online.co.uk
Surprised how poor the Toyos do, & I know which tyres I'll be fitting on mine in future - the Bridgestone RE720 - had them before on my CRX and they were great, and they're rated higher than the Eagle F1s!

A) there German - um, irrelevant?!
2) hardwearing - ok, but I'm not too concerned about that, more about grip
C) Cheap'ish - yes
D) Great in the wet. - reviews say otherwise

ADAC motorwelt 03/2006
Weaknesses on wet roadway - weak on dry roadway (leads to the devaluation)
ADAC motorwelt 03/2003
Relatively well in the rolling friction and comfort. But clear weaknesses on dry and wet roadway, leads to the devaluation

Yeah thats right, but I think the SO3 may be more of a high grip dry weather tyre?
And they cost quite a bit more too!
Edit:

Barum Bravuris are great in the dry.
Grippy as hell.
And German is relevant because German tyre makers are going to favour German make cars!

I was looking at tyres today and seriously considering running 195/50/15's on the front as GS D3's are only Ԛ£32 from mytyres.
the pro's are
- their GS D3's
- will have a better turn in (less tyre wall roll)
- have a good price/performance ratio
the cons
- will look small and sheeite in the arches

Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

The load index of the 195/50R15 GSD3 is under the min recommended in the manual though, which puts me off
Typically its around 87-88 on 205/55/15
Its only 82 on those 195/50 Goodyear's

Hardwearing usually means poorer grip in the wet. I have Bridgestone 205-55 R15s and think they are the bees knees. Michelen tyres are not great in my opinion in the wet. My wife's toyota corolla has a set fitted from new and finds grip poor in wet conditions, ABS kicking in alot. Getting rid of them for a set of Bridgestones.

Hahaha.. I used to get these fitted to my Carlton Diesel Estate because they were Ԛ£45 fitted.. for 2!
Never before have I used such a bad tyre. That car had 80bhp or so but would drift like a Mk1 Escort on them.

I hear the FK451/2 are quite good, the others less so...
Dont think the 451s come in smaller than 16" though?

And I have the Dunlop SP9000's and I am very happy with them. They also beat the F1 in that test but not the Bridgestone.
They also have that "wheel protector" bulge in the sidewall to keep the ol' BBS's in good nick !!

Nankang NS2's in 195/50/15- 4x for Ԛ£104 from camskills.
decent grip in the dry, and progressive breakaway.
tread pattern like the toyo proxies, so clears water well enough.
also 8mm of tread so plenty of wear time

Still only a load index of 82 on those though
I've got a selection of shite budget tyres on the BBS I'm using at the mo (Got another set with good A032r stashed for summer/track)
The nankang (NSF) does seem to be the best of them, but still isnt great, and tends to suddenly let go into understeer
OSF is the Barum Bravuris mentioned above - this locks up very easy under braking as it has no grip at all, also seems to skip/grip/skip in a nasty way in high speed corners
The rears are Jupiters - OK in the dry, sometimes slide when accelerating hard on a slight bend. Piss poor in the wet - let go at the slightest prod of the throttle
Morale - spend a little more and buy some decent brand tyres!

i used to use 205/50/15 goodyear f1s, put on cheaper 205/50/15 kuhmos (the good kuhmos!!) a couple of yrs ago as i knew i'd be doing a load of driving with work and motorway driving and they'd be goodish and hardwearing, and have never looked back. they seem pretty good to me, no doubt not the best, but always get them at protyre so at least they're properly fitted etc and i have laser alignment done while there. im really quite impressed by them. my car can be slippery in the wet, but its lower with koni adjustables on it and has the eibach ARBs set at the middle setting so its generally a bit of a handful, and don't think the tyres are responsible.
never really looked into load indexes before, doesnt 82 still mean the tyre can carry like 500kgs though?

Not quite sure, but I'd rather not go under what the manual says
Esp with driving quick - if you've got a rear tyre nearly cocking in the air at the back, how much weight is on the diagonal opposite one at the front?
Might just be me being over wary?
But anyway it seems there are decent tyres in the same league as Eagle F1s out there in the correct sizes which was the main point of this thread.
I dont mind spending a little more on ones with good wet performance, I'll probably go to micheldever tyres anyway when I get round to replacing them, as they tend to be pretty cheap!

as my boss always says " tyres are the only think keeping your car on the road!"
I dont skimp on tyres being in the trade. I can get what I like and I like the Barums for my car...... In fact for all my cars!
