What would be the best method used to re paint a set of newly sand blasted alloy rims?

Powder coated or spray painted?

Thanks.

powder coat is probably better as spary paint tends to chip quiet easily and also fade with time

Ok then thanks for your expert advice. This will be the option I'll take. I don't know much about the powder coating process. Could someone fill me in?

Thanks.

powder coating is an electrostatic powder which is sprayed to your rim which is aslo elelectrostaticly charged (but opposite polarity) thus the powder is attracted to the rim and gives a smoother and more lasting finish as bootyman says. My painted rims which i think you saw on the shnitzer thread were painted a year ago and still look good provided they are painted professionally, i.e they will last as long as your bodywork paint, they must however be treated like body work and that means polish etc. powder coating is also a bit more expensisve so if you get a choice and not much price difference betyween powder and a por spray job go for the powder.

Don't forget that once the powder's applied, the whole component goes into an oven to have the powder melted. Typically the powder is polyester which melts nicely and flows to make a homogenius plastic bag around the component.

It's great at keeping the elements out, untill it becomes damaged at which point it becomes great at keeping the elements in :(

Image got mine done about 15 months ago, got them sprayed, even thou they have got chips on them they still look the nuts and have lasted a lot longer than i expected, thou iam going to get a brand new set of the same wheels and have them done again the same, if your not as stupid as me with money you could always get a company like chip-away to come round to sort the paint chips on your wheels

Cool. Im hoping to build a track car in the next couple of years. I was thinking about a Nova with a 2.0 16v Redtop engine or a 205/106 GTi but thinking about it, a stripped 325i would be far more fun! :D
