A couple of months ago the central locking seized up on my IS. I could not open any doors easily with the keys and the boot and fuel cap were both locked. brianmooore told me to cut two red wires, join them together, and i did; and the problem immediatly was fixed and has been fine ever since
On monday, i got a carwash as usual in the afternoon. After 30 Seconds, the car, which has an immobiliser, automatically tried to lock itself as usual, but i could here the central locking unit grinding and crackling. It since did not lock at all with any keys even from the doors; i cant even lock the doors by pushing the pins down
Just been out to have a look, and took the central locking unit out; which was full up with water, presumably from the carwash. have tried two units, one im pretty sure that is working, and neither have solved the problem, so my car still wont lock when i immobilise it like it should, and still wont lock if i push the door pins down.
The immobiliser is fine so the car isnt goin anywhere but it would be nice to have some locking doors.
HELP!

Wonder if the deadlock motors have operated with the main locks unlocked? Don't even know if it's possible, but I imagine it would give results something like this.
Unplug the locking ECU and find the blue wire and the black wire. Earth one of them and apply 12V+ to the other for half a second. One way around sets the deadlocks, and the other opens them. Can't remember which way around, so experiment.
While you're at it, the blue wire and the white wire do the same for the actual locking motors.

Earth the blue one, for instance, and apply 12V+ to the black one for half a second, then try the other way around. You can use the brown wire on the socket for earth, and the red/black for 12V+, as long as you are sure the red/black is live under load. (Test between red/black and brown with a 21W 12V lamp first.)
What about when you try the blue wire and white wire?

No power from red/black to earth?
Hope fuse 27 is blown, otherwise you've done something nasty to your loom.
Where are you getting the 12V+ and earth from for the tests? Are you sure the full 12V+ is there when you apply it to the deadlock wires?
Connect the 12V lamp to the blue and black wires before you apply the 12V, so that the lamp flashes as you momentarily apply the power.
Beginning to look like you may be heading towards removing the door cards!

Does a blue wire and a green wire have anything to do with the dead lock?

Blue wire is the common wire which connects to one side of the deadlock motors and the locking motors. The green wire is ignition controlled 12V+, and is only used by the inertia switch/ crash sensor to unlock the doors on impact.Sanchez wrote:Does a blue wire and a green wire have anything to do with the dead lock?

The locks certainly won't work with the blue one disconnected from the ECU, but the only time you'll miss the green one is when your would be rescuers are unable to pull you from the fiery wreck because your doors didn't unlock in the crash as BMW designed!Sanchez wrote:these wires have been cut on my car by previous owner, and the lock doesnt work, where do they need contecting to? I can't possibly say if reconnecting the blue wire will make your locks work without knowing why the previous idiot, sorry - owner, cut them in the first place. Somehow, I doubt it.
I could certainly easily sort your locking in my workshop, but it's close to impossible to sort these things from a distance when the bodgers and cowboys have been at work.

ok
definatly not getting anything from any connections. i connected a brown wire to the earth on the white plug, and a blue wire to the live (red/black) on the white plug as shown below:
[img][/img]
I then connected the brown earth wire to the black socket, and the blue live wire to the blue socket like so :
[img][/img]
I then did the same for the white, blue wires, and then also swapped the live and earth wires so the black was live and the blue was earthed, i still got nothing.
When i reconnect the central locking module and operate the remote central locking from my fob i can here the relay clicking three times; there is just no operation from the central locking system itself; does this mean anything?
Getting frustrated now!

Nope, electrics aint my forte!!!
Im thinking going to a scrppy and riping a central locking out, modules, motors, relays, everything thats not wiring. And replacing bit by bit to see whats broken.

Have you got 12v at the locking ECU ? (not just a click)
Do you have a multi meter ?

2nd hand actuators are a better option
i just find it hard to believe that water in my central locking unit has stopped all my door pins working, i cant even push the feckers down!

Good grief! This still not sorted?
The central locking circuitry, especially that to the lock motors is quite simple. Just a wire to all the lock motors, another wire to the deadlock motors, and a common wire to both.
It's beginning to look like you've fried the motors. Take out the boot or fuel cap one and test it off the car.
I suppose that water in the ECU could cause one of the relays to pull in and stay in, thus cooking the motors, but the thermal cut out in the ECU should prevent this.
