anyone know the weight of the lower section of an M40 engine?
no gearbox and no head?

or, to put it another way... how many men would it take to lift it?

Ooooooohh,
your lifting it out of the engine bay

Why dont you drop it on a piece of ply with the suspension, lift the car above with 2 jacks and drag it from under.
Thats how I do it

Sure I read somewhere that you don't even need to take the cross member out, if you jack the car up high enough.

It wont need jacking that high really seen as though the head is off,
Ive used this method several times with no problems at all, ive taken out an M10 carb and replaced with an M20 2.5, removed an M10 carb and replaced with an M10 injection and removed an M40 soon to be replaced with an M50 8)
Not to mention the scrappers ive stripped ive stripped!
IMHO and experiance it is easier than an engine crane
