My friend swapped an alternator for me from a 87 325i sport to my 91 320i se.
now he said he did not attach one of the wires back as the original starter from my car had an extra terminal so he wrapped it in electrical tape and cable tied it out of the way .
so now i can use leccy windows or sunroof unless i open a door! i think this is because the power going to the ceiling light sort of activates or crosses over with the rest of the electrics. givving me temp power feed. also the brake fluid warning light is vaguely come on but i checked over brakes thoroughly and they are fine.
i'm sure i need to just connect up this loose wire and all will be well but to which terminal? as my current starter (being from an older model car) doesn't have the same terminal.
thanks
liam
lecy sunroof and windows only work with door open!

!!!!!!!! wrapped it in electrical tape and tied it out the way!!! Does your friend think BMW put it there because they had some spare wire to use up???
There is a thick wire link or a copper bar that goes between the inside large terminal of the starter solenoid and the starter motor itself. Remove the terminal on the end of the black/green wire you have taped up, and replace it with one that will fit the bigger bolts on this link. Remove the link, put this ring terminal on one of the bolts, then replace the link and tighten the nuts.
