It seems to be flavour of the month and my Touring just decided to join in :(
It was working fine up until the car stood in the snow for a day. After the thaw I noticed the following symptoms:

Drivers door unlocks on the key, makes a wimpy whining noise instead of unlocking the other three doors.

The other three doors are locked, can't move the internal locking tabs at all (deadlocked, I assume).

Fuel Flap remains locked nomatter what the locking state of the drivers door.

Tailgate can be locked/unlocked on the key. Doesn't seem to influence central locking at all.

Front Passenger door is jammed locked like the rear doors. Can move the key clockwise to 2 oclock, but nothing happens apart from a short whining noise. Can't move the key anticlockwise at all.

The real problem here is that the fuel light is on and I don't think I can get it to my normal garage. If anyone can help me, I'd be really grateful. I think there's a BMW main agent in range, but I don't want to think about what they'd charge :(

The first time my went wrong this is exactly what happened; and how i fixed it was like this;

remove the drivers side speaker cover and speaker, and access the central locking relay from behind the speaker hole; its held on a bracket by two 10mm bolts. Youw ill notice a relay socket attatched to the loom, with no relay in it though. Find the red wire coming out of this and cut it.

Now, also in the drivers side footwell, pull the carpet up near the accelerater and you will see three wires, white red and i cant rememebr the last colour; cut the red one again.

Now join the to wires together with a scotchlock or something. That should fix your problem.

Credit to brianmooore for this fix! ^

Thanks 318...
Just to be clear, I cut the two red wires and join them to each other? Is this permanent or will it free the mechanism and then I put the wiring back how it was?

Just checking before I start hacking :)
Thanks again

Thanks for your help guys. It turned out to be a spring that had got caught in the drivers door lock. I didn't spot it myself, but my overtalented spannering friend Bob got it sorted. He also rerouted my throttle cable to avoid vibration while he was at it.

cheers!
