Hi guys,

I've got an E30 1993 316i touring, which I've only had a few days, but, it hesitates when on part throttle, at low revs(below 3k rpm) trying to gently accelerate, if I then floor it, it seems to hesitate then go, hesitate then go, all the way through the rev range! - this happens wether hot or cold.

Also it has, when cold, on part throttle, at low revs(below 3krpm), with a slight load, i.e trying to gently accelerate, had what felt like a complete ignition cut, for a fraction of a second, then carried on hesitating and going! It has done this tree or four times!

Anyone got any ideas of where to look first??

Cheers
Gav

I've just been out to it and cleaned the dizzy cap and rotor arm, which look like they haven't been changed for a while! I also fitted a clean air filter (got plugs, oil and oil filter which I'll fit tomorrow), whilst I had the bonnet up, i checked that all the electrical connections that I could see were ok, pulled relays and fuses out(one at a time) and reseated.

Took it for a quick spin round the block, and guess what?......

....... its still the same! lol...... although it was marginaly smoother.... the hesitation's not quite as noticable, but definately still doing it.

Will see what its like after a small service tomorrow, and I'll get plug leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm, when I get paid.

Gav

P.S. Whats that wire, and what does it do, that goes from one of the plug leads, down to near the crank??

That wire is the impulse triggeronly the later modles had them.
