I HAVE A 1987 E30 M3 WHICH HAS BEEN STOOD FOR APPROX 10 YEARS.
THERE IS NO WATER CIRCULATION IN THE COOLING SYSTEM.I HAVE FLUSHED IT OUT TO NO AVAIL AND NOW I HAVE JUST FITTED A NEW THERMOSTAT (Ԛ£80.00) AND ITS STILL NOT DONE THE TRICK.
HERES A FEW SYMPTOMS.
1.THE WIRES LOOK FINE ON THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
2.THE TOP OF THE THERMOSTAT GETS HOT.
3.THE BOTTOM OF THE THERMOSTAT REMAINS COLD.
4THE HOSE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAD REMAINS COLD.

ALL THE FUSES LOOK OK ALTHOUGH THERE DOES'NT SEEM TO BE A SPECIFIC ONE FOR THE THERMOSTAT SENSOR.

I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO ANY SUGGESTIONS.

REGARDS.

PS. CAN ANYBODY RECOMMEND A GOOD OUTFIT FOR REPLACEMENT EXHAUSTS.?

Given the length of time, you may have blockage somewhere in the system, did you replace the water pump aswell?

I reckon it could be sediment, rust especially given the time frame involved here, best take everything apart and see if you can spot anything.

The thin return pipe is notorious for getting blocked! I am not sure whether there is one on the m3 expansion, i presume it is.
