if you are talking about the switch that makes the windows go up and down then yes. but there are two types the may have been replaced with the old type that don't light up the arrows will be just painted on. at least that is the way it is on my 7 and 5. i only own 2 door 3ers

I assume your refering to the rear demister switch ?
It only lights up when you press it. (or you can modify it to light up like the hazard switch)

thats how its supposed to be, it comes on brighter when you switch on the rear window, that way you can see if its on or off :D

How dim?, does it match the brightness of your hazard light, you might find that when you push it in to turn on its brighter, just like the hazard light switch. Its done like that for a reasons aswell, so you tell if it on or not otherwise it would always be the same brightness.

Take the bits out of the donor hazard and put into the demister ?
Yeah, that's basically what needs doing. I also change the reisistor value to give the correct brightness.

Aparently you can just swap the switch cover from a heated rear window switch into a hazard switch and it works. Never tried it like this though.

Ian.
hope this helps
