Right guys trying to put an end towards thoughts of ending project E30 and buying a VW Corrado and instead proceed with converting my 1.8 to a 2.5 possibly 2.7
The car has had the running gear changed to have discs all round. Things like the engine, gearbox, loom etc etc for a conversion have yet to be bought. I don't have the time, tools nor the knowledge really to do the conversion myself. My mates that do no longer live nearby and dont have the time themselves. Plus my arms in a sling for about 7 weeks so I cant even drive at the moment.
Is there anyone here who might be willing to do the conversion for me? I'd give you some cash obviously but would want a professional job done and possibly source the parts for me if I gave you a budget. Preferably someone who's well known on the zone. Oh and within the London/North London area.
Thanks!
Nick

Wow, guys what can I say I'm touched. No seriously, team effort and a half! Sounds promising!! I'll try to reward those that help as best I can.
I live in Finchley, North London.
However at the moment the cars not starting (see battery post in tech forum) and I cant drive for about 2 months or so - had shoulder operation due to re-occurring dislocation from old rugby injury
Although I'm now sporting some titanium bits in my shoulder, tried to get carbon fibre but its NHS
Basically I want a solid, relatively powerful and reliable engine. This may mean just gettin a solid 2.5 conversion, I can always upgrade/tune later when I get more cash. Another option would be a 2.7 which is just a bit more special yet more practical than a 3.5 conversion. Although I haven't checked to see if I can afford the insurance.
How much do guys reckon the possible options are? Budget would be around a Ԛ£1000, although this wouldn't all be available now. Would get the rest at the end of next month. Got my first paycheck from first proper FULL time job (been at uni) and need to sort out what I've got to pay off first i.e credit card etc. But its not like I'm gonna be spending much on going out for a while!
Suggestions welcome. Might be able to increase the budget but will take longer - need to save up some more paychecks.
Two of my good mates are putting orders in for a civic type R and S2000 (been workin longer than I have), so I got to keep the retro cred alive, somehow...
Look forward to what plans you guys may have.
I know nothings confirmed but THANKS for the interest!

Ok, here we go;
Demlotcrew has wicked knowledge of wiring and installation. (Ԛ£priceless)
Karan has the 2.5 engine - full of Torque and pulls well. (Ԛ£225)
I can get a Tec 1 close ratio g/box and a 3.64 LSD for Ԛ£275 +pp from Aberdeen!!!!!! as well as 51mm front struts complete for Ԛ£50 and I've also got good knowledge of 2.5 sport conversions.
Simon13 makes an excellent cuppa
(only joking) his knowledge is priceless as well.
Never worked with Gwynley but have met up for a chat and he's sorted, you can't go wrong with this combination of people.
Hope this all tickles your fancy mate?
(Finchley - - - - Tallyhoe corner area??)

Mate this definately tickles my fancy.
Where would the work be done though?
Any offers?
whats the difference between your lsd and a 3.91 (think thats the right figure?)
getting just a bit excited
could turn out like pimp my ride, although someone will have to volunteer to be Gimp Westwood.

LOL - Westwood - that would be DaveTouring LOL
The difference between the LSD's;
3.91 pulls slightly quicker than but loses top end
3.64 bit more timely (not really noticeable) on pull away but has a nice top end
91 = Tec 2 sport and 64 = Tec 1 sport
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the out come of a 3.64 plus - if you wanted to change for a 3.91 in the future, you could sell and then buy a 3.91 for the same money
Neil.

Cool.
By the way, yeah I live quite close to the Tally Ho. Just off the N.Circ near the cinema and bowling.
Trying to load up some pics of my beast in the making just so you can see the project at hand, but its taking a while coz I'm typing as the one-arm-bandit at the mo.

Right here's some pics of the old girl in need of a new heart.
Current spec:
318i;
60mm drop on Bilstein Streetline shocks and Pi springs (usually looks lower but the pics were taken parked on a bit of a gradient) really like LOW riders but the handling has definately suffered.
Powerflex front eccentric and rear beam bushes
Upgraded front discs
Rear drum brakes converted to discs
Chavtastic back-box - I can explain
15" BBS to be put on - riding on the 14s at the mo as I'm waiting to get the 15s sprayed black with a polished lip
Mtec 1 s.wheel
K+N - woo....hoo
Sparco twin tubed Alu front strut brace
DIY all red rear lights
Clear indicators
Plans;
new engine and ancillaries, yet to be confirmed
lsd
recaro leather interior
new suspension, yet to be confirmed
possibly front iS lip spoiler and tinted windows
probably some more but depends on cost of conversion
eventually turn it into a minter i.e see to some rust, rear inner arches etc etc
Dont want any kit or spoilers, quite like the look as is, even with the chrome round the windows. Plus I like the thought of having a sleeper, although once the wheels are done it might look a bit knight rider stylee

So guys, any more suggestions?
Where can the work be done?
I've probably got enough cash to get this project rolling, but would need someone to come and pick the car up, although it may need a jump start (see post in tech forum)
But need to confirm whats gonna be bought, who's doing what, where and what I'll be giving you guys back in return, although if you want to put labour in as free or for quite a few beers, out of the goodness of your hearts then feel free
Cheers!
Nick

Ive got time to come down lend a hand/take out, fit new engine. But i dont really have the time to sort out all the logistics, thats something you will need to look into further Nick. We only need a flat bit of parking space to do the work on, i think in total it should only take a max of three days to get the car into 325i spec.
Also i think on your plan of upgrades i would include vented disks at the front.
Andrew

Yeah was planning on gettin some braided hoses too.
In terms of space, my road can get busy and isn't that suitable really me thinks.
Think it would be better to take it to somewhere thats got suitable working space and tools available.
Originally I thought about just taking it to a garage possibly one recommended by a zoner but can only imagine this will cost a lot more money. I'd rather pay a bit less and get a fellow zoner(s) to do it. Or atleast pay for the usage of the space and tools, as well as have a place to send/leave/take the necessary parts to.
I'm not the type to take liberties with peoples time or efforts but I'm afraid I can't really offer much at the moment apart from some cash if necessary. Arms in a sling for a while and you guys probably know more about mechanics than I do. Although I'd like to watch and try to learn a thing or 2.

Thanks mate. REALLY appreciate the offer but it might be a bit too far. Might be for me anyway since I cant drive at the mo. Could get the train but still need the car to be taken down there anyway. Need to see what the score is with the others that are interested??
Cheers dude!!!!!!!!!!

Bit far for me but should still be able to get my head arund travelling - it would probably end up being three Sundays for me because of work unless i can talk Sarah into letting me use the drive way here???????? I dout it though as i've kicked the ar5e out of it with breaking and rebuilding other motors since we've lived here
If it does end up at Si's Nix, me or Karan could pick up up on route? Now i know the area your in (Compton school, Nando's,swimming pool area?) it shouldn't be a problem.
If this all goes ahead - let me know asap so i can get the g/box and LSD sent down
Neil.

Nick: Gimme a shout when you know which weekend you'll be doing this.. Willing to chip in a pair of hands and some tools if required. Let me know in advance hombré.
Working on getting the Roadster off the drive asap. Gonna try and convice Ryan to gimme a hand when he's got his 325iSport and is feeling the beemer love all over again!
I'm liking the sound of the 2.7 by the way, I think it'd be a shame to do a conversion and create a car you could have just gone out and bought (a 325i or sport). A 2.7 will make the wole rigmerole worth it! More individual.

Thanks mate.
Car should run, its just tryin to find a place to do the work and store the car + parts.
At the moment I'm tryin to decide on a 2.5 or 2.7 conversion. 2.7 would be sweet but will cost more, therefore delay the completion of the project as I'll need to save more cash, but if its kept somewhere where the persons cool with havin it there until its done then all systems go.
Would also need to make sure I can afford to insure a 2.7, which i'll do soon.
Cheers!

i thought I saw Masterbates offering a built / reliable 2.7 motor in the spares section the other week... dont think he wanted mega money for it and is probably going to be good for 185bhp ?? with some good torque.

Well having spent many a day/night drowning under your car in a gutter whats another couple of days gonna hurt!!!
I have already fitted the bushes (M3) to the front and changed his rear subframe bushes (all poly) converted it to rear discs from a 318is and the bloody handbrake cables front discs are also now vented (ate grooved) plus the arwful bolloxed mastercylinder replaced.
Who ever drives his car will require ear defenders as the exhaust is the worst ever and has a funny name on it
At least doing your conversion is a damn site easier than somebody else's we know who shall remain nameless
psp buy a battery ain't jump starting the bloody thing anymore my little micra can't take the abuse no more
