Not all the time, it picks and chooses as to when it wants to work. Change the bulb? or am I just wishing it was that simple!!

could be the connectors contact in the cap behind mabey?

Could be anything from the fuse in the fusebox, to the headlamp, to it's earth connection.
New bulb is the easiest and quickest thing to try first.
