Moved this from chat.
Just found this on r3v. Can remember seeing a turbo IS in pbmw and wanting it so much. Was dam quick too! Oh well, when insurance and money gets better, then maybe so.

Is it worth doing? TDI say they will do it for Ԛ£3600 but for that money you would be better dropping in a 2.8 or something? Would it be cheaper to buy the bits yourself. Hmmm, wonder whats the cheapest you could do it for?

Best person to ask mate is "Ant" (Zone name "Ant"). He's stuck a turbo on his 325se and is planning a turbo conversion on Malcom's (Tylerma) 318i Cab. I think he's charging around Ԛ£1000-1500.
He said he would expect no less than 200bhp from the 318i after conversion and that's just the turbo winkeye

Deffinately worth it :D

Ԛ£3600? What power do you get for that?

Sure you get ///M power under the hood for that :D

Hmm, that sounds like a decent price for a conversion.

I dunno what power. Thats what I though. Ԛ£3600 was a bit pricey eh.

Hello peeps

Bexleys have just mapped a similar conversion, had good results too.

that setup as pictured is ideal for the iS, smallish turbine and compressor for no lag and monster midrange, probably sacrificed some top end but almost defo worth the effort, shame the AFM has been retained, opportunity missed there methinks....

Malc's planned conversion is still in the pipeline, He is sourcing the turbo and doing some of the labour to keep costs down, Management is the first step, FI comes later on

As always when planning these things, work out what you want from it before speccing the parts, my car has a smalish turbo for the cc's but thats given it monster shove everywhere and no real peak in the perfomance, conversly go bigger on the turbo, loose some midrange but have a lot up top, decisions decisions.

On the plus side, a bigger turbo is only a few bolts away from reality once you've done the rest of the bits required

now where's my spanners ?

Cool. Sounds like a plan for the future. Insirance however holds me back plus money. Would be so good to have a turbo 318is though. Just the thought of it makes me smile! :D

I'm doing one at the minute...

T25 off an S13. (Ball bearing GT28 later)

Stock Manifold flipped and modified to T25 flange.

Divorced wastegate turbo elbow.

Downpipe with WB O2 sensor bung to miss the E36 rack.

Transit intercooler.

Full Megasquirt'n'Spark by Ant...

JE 8:1 compression forged pistons.

Bottom end rebuild.

Single-mass flywheel. (3 bloody kilos!)

E36 knock sensors. (Headphones are for cheapskates...)

M44 timing gear to get rid of CP damper. (Thanks Tim_S)

All your Base.

Sweet setup, dont supose Ant wants an IS to do a free 'tester' turbo on? Could do with a few more horses, just dont wanna fork out for them :D

Ant does want an iS to hone his skills on, but I wouldn't ask for it for free and have already spoken to him ;)
