Just found this on ebay - Someone should be shot through the face for doing this to such a special car!!!!!!!! :x:x:x:x:x:x

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1986-BMW-E28-M5-S ... dZViewItem

I just wish I could afford it and had somewhere to store it - thats about as important a car as you wi ll find - the very first right hand drive M model nd the first to bear the M5 logo... I feel sorry for the guy who owned it when this happened - that car is nothing short of my dream car... or was :S

Does sound like the owner hadn't fitted an Immobiliser/Alarm. Which on a car this valuable may of been an oversight.

Would love to see someone buying this to restore but with fire and roof damage like that, it would be a hell of a job to fix :(

And would it be worth it in the end. For the cash it would cost you could buy a 5 series and conver it to an M5, not the same I know but probably more sensiblt. The best I can see for this is if someone buys it and uses the parts to upgrade their 5 series to M5 spec.

if i didnt have my current project on the go i would have a go at this, very significant car and one of my favourites, been watching this car and i hope it goes to an enthusiast.

if you know what youre doing this is a very save-able(spell) car. i have always found roof damage to be easily sorted but the most avoided sort of damage.

if someone fancies saving it but doesnt want to go it alone then they should contact me,i dont have money coming out of my ears but i do have skills

i think the owner should present it to a motoring meuseum and seeing its car number 1 of187 they would restore it and it would be safe 4eva as well then

i specialize in salvage repair and only deal with the metalwork side of things but i work from within a bodyshop that deals with paintwork mostly so they take care of my paint needs for me, resto stuff is generally more involved but i price my work by the job rather than quoting a fiver less than the next bandit.

if you let me know what needs doing (and photos if you can) ill see what can be done.

TBH mate I think it's a bit below you, and perfectly easy for me to do, I just need the front valance changing for the moment. If I get one do you recon your place could do me a price for having it sprayed up, cos you are quite close, I'm gonna need front wings too, eventually

I see now why you bought it like that!

I might be interested in a new roof skin, mines quet bad with rust now and not sure weather it gonna be cheaper just to have a new one put on or not as its gonna need grinding right out and welding, rest of the car is not bad for rust.

Can you actually buy roof skins then?

Sorry to go off topic again guys, mabie this would be a bit overkit for my humble tech 1

OK, I'll accept it's chassis number 1, blah blah blah... but how the hell do you restore it? It's not economical to do so... there's NO interior to speak of at all, the roof is bent UPWARDS, all the engine wiring (in fact the whole car's wiring) has melted into an un-usable mess... it's scrap I'm afraid to say.

All that's left that's usable are the wheels, suspension, gearbox, bodykit and maybe the lump... no much else though.

Frag it for parts I say...

I'm guessing AT LEAST Ԛ£20k to fix it properly... if not more.

The owner of this car has been talking about rebuilding the car for a while but a combination of tightness and reality dawning has mean't its time for the next victim.
I bought a taxed and mot'd e28 M5 about 18 months ago for Ԛ£1400 ! , so if any deviant wants to restore that corpse good luck !. I remember how i struggled to sell my M5 once decouncilled and sorted for Ԛ£3600.
I recently broke another one with no damage of any note and i paid Ԛ£1250 for that with a free B9 Alpina !
The M5 e28 is a very rare and serious chariot but this one is history, if some dreamer with more money than sense does buy it i have a set of original M5 16" BBS in stock, as i see the current owner has nicked them, the only thing of value off this car!.

yeah sorry Jon i know where you're coming from but that just isn't going to get repaired unless BMW UK or someone go on a mission to save it.

btw i'm now working to a deadline for the Audi CQ buying guide, so tell Ant it's definately in the May issue and we'll definately be wanting the car at some point in the next few weeks :D
