I have the chance to get a sebring rear box and no centre box.. will that be too loud? or would i be better off no middle box, and a stock exhaust?

If it's on a 325i it will sound the nut's, not too loud either.
If it's on a 318i it will sound rather loud and you will lose back pressure ie; loss of power

EDIT: Put compression instead of Back Pressure

Er, the exhaust system should have no effect on compression, and if it's back pressure you're talking about, that does not help power either, despite what the common belief seems to be!

I have just bought the Sebring back box for my iS, in 2 minds as to wait and get the centre section as well or if just to go for the back box on the standard exhaust

Been told it is nice and throaty but not chav loud!

Have to say it was a fair bit bigger than I was expecting but I am also interested in what peoples experiences have been.

What Turbo Brown said. A poorly optimised exhaust will affect the driveability of the car though. I'm sure that backpressure affects the torque characterisitics / delivery. Less BP can lead to higher flow and more top end but this is often at the expense at the expense of low speed lugging / tractability.

Whether or not you'd notice dpends on the application and you sensitivity I guess.

I'd buy an aftermarket for sound and durability rather than power any way. It only makes a big difference on big displacement / forced induction applications in my experience.
