Still got speedo probs checked wires onto diff someone had been there before chopped off dodgy crimps and replaced. Have previously tried two other instrument clusters all to no avail, tried cluster again after wire repair still u/s. car has previously had new diff pickup, checked fuse 12 as per haynes ok, apparently supply on terminal 13 & the pickup wires to 8 and 12. What i want to do next is check the circuit from the loom sockets back to the diff and fuse 10 the blue skt is on the right and white on the left. Now the question how do you identify the skt pin no's and which skt are they on (as i dont fancy splitting sockets, any other ideas please?
Thanks

checked all the fuses with a meter and they were all ok, swingometer reds 50+ on over run but goes streight 2 zero when when you open throttle.

Speedo sensor is to 8 and 12 of the white connector. 8 is earth and 12 is signal.appletree wrote:Still got speedo probs checked wires onto diff someone had been there before chopped off dodgy crimps and replaced. There are very small numbers identifying the pins somewhere but I can't remember where.(Possibly inside the cluster on the PCB?)

I had exact same probs and I know you've checked the wiring to the diff sensor, but that wiring can become very corroded. I actually had to chop about half the wire off under the car and replace cause it was a kind of orangey/rust colour. I just started at the diff and stripped the wire untill some fresh uncorroded wiring appeared, thats where I cut and reconnected.
Still a bit bodged but its worth a look next time your under there!!

fianly its sorted after all the check of the wires under the car and wires in the loom i have sorted the problem!
it was the actual speedo that was faulty, i swopped it with an identical speedo i got from the scrapper and now it all works, even my swingometer
the only draw back is my cars only done 88,632 and the dial i,ve had to swop to has done 118,888
For any one interested the wiring is in the white plug (left hand) with the wiring coming in from the right looking at the pin holes the bottom right is pin 1 bottom left is 13 top left 26 top right 14
power comes in on pin 13 (12V+) and the pickup is across 8 & 12
I flicked the disconnected pickup cores together and was able to make the speedo needle flicker. sorted
cheers for your help.
