Short lived E30 ownership
Moderator: martauto
Bit of a dilema... I have had my 325i sport since july last year and have really grown to love it however a few months before i got it i sold my E36 328is and since have started to regret my decision to get rid of it. Now the dilema i have is that i have now been offered a very good E36 M3 for good money.
With the market for the E30 sports being quite high over here in NI and mine being, (in my opinion), one of the cleanest examples i've seen do i sell it on and take the M3 or do i stay were i am??
Opinions please... I'm pretty much made up on what i'm going to do but i am interested to see what you guys would do.

I'd have to agree with that mate. M3 is in a different class

^ agreed with Ben
There is truly no competition..Sport wins hands down
If you just like the power go and buy an old quatro..
If you like yer looks.. how can you go for an e36 over yer sport wether its M powered or not?
E30 m3 for more or less the money your talking? maybe a bit more.

Lookwise i like them both and the power of the M3 is awesome.. alot of pro's and con's for both.
If the finances were right i'd have both and garage the e30 for the summer months/weekends but the M3 has came up alot earlier than i planned.
At the moment its not 100% i need to sort a few things out over the next couple of weeks

i normally would say m3, but as your in ireland and sports are worth serious dollar and yours does look good, although that can be a reason to sell.
depends on what the m3 is like, is it an early one, rust bucket, etc. alot are ruffed up crap.
but if its a decent well maintained one and bodywork is mint then the m3

SONY PSP'S £100
out of the m3's ive given a go, the e36 is so quick its shocking. the ammount of power low down it has it would be lethal in damp let alone wet.
id definatly take the m3. how would the fuel economy differ tho?

It's my mate that owns the M3 and i went with him when he got it so i know where it's came from etc and he's really into his BM's so wouldnt have bought a dose.. He had it serviced and fully checked over by a BMW specialist and it was given a clean bill off health, has 8 months MOT left on it and the body work is in top class condition. And as you say sports are reaching some good money here at the minute which helps and i know i'm selling a good one, i looked at a lot before i bought this one.nav786 wrote:i normally would say m3, but as your in ireland and sports are worth serious dollar and yours does look good, although that can be a reason to sell.

The M3 will be a bit harder on the fuel, i'm borrowing it for the weekend to make the comparisons but i dont think it's going to be a massive difference, let's just say i've had an impreza STi WRX so i know about heavy fuel consumption...lol
Cheers guys
E36 M3 all the way, no offense to the E30 M3 boys but its a 4 cylinder, E36 is 6 so the sound is nicer. Fuel consumption will be better than a Scoobie, and its not gonna be as worser off then what your driving. Just make sure its the 3.0 version and not the 3.2 evo and you'll be fine.

the m3 should have better fuel economy than the 325i, the m20 isn't very good in that respect, if you've had an e36 before then you'll more than likely be happy, most of the cons that come up on the zone (when people ask this question about e30 vs e36) are looks & also it's less of a 'driver's car' - i.e. it has sound deadening, good suspension, and power steering...
However having had an e36 you'll know whether this bothers you or not! and it clearly doesn't...

E36 M3 is a weapon. Even the standard suspension is good enough for it to see off 6 cyl E30's with ease. Very very quick cars.
Shame about the image they have though and every other E36 looks the same with its M3 style bodykit and wheels....oh and the fake M3 badge.

If your head is screwed on the right way the an E36 M3 is a more attractive proposition than pretty much any E30 going...

in a perfect world i would keep the e30 and get the e36 M3. but this is not a perfect world, so if the M3 is truley a class act and is a clean, unmolested , straight car, then i would go for it. those e36 M3's move ass!!
Keep the Sport, Ken. M3s are like arseholes to be honest. A clean E30 like yours is pretty rare, as most are sheds or rotboxes. Or 318's.

Once driven, forever smitten.
Direct injection, turboed, intercooled, 16 valves giving a whopping 48.5hp/litre!!

picking up the M3 tonight, borrowing for the weekend. I have drove it a few times before but have always been for short jaunts, i'm going drive it a bit longer over the next couple of days. I advertised the sport a couple nights ago and within a couple of hours had generated a fair bit of interest.
