Hi Guys
Been doing some extensive reading on the M30 conversion, (just read Gareth's post) and have made my decision to do it - just something I'd like to check though.
Most people seem to have used a 325i M20 as the car to put the M30 in.
I have a 318i touring that i'd like to convert and would like to know if it is more work to do the conversion, in terms of electrical work (sensors, wiring etc.) and I guess brake upgrades to at least 325i spec? etc etc?
Thanks for your help people!
Rob
Is an M40 engined touring suitable for M30 engine?

mine used to be a 316i
budget 50-100 quid for rear disc trailing arms, front calipers and vented front discs, but that's about it. small things like coding plug in clocks will need changing for one from a 6 cyl e30, but nothing major i don't think.

go for it!
i've no idea on the problems with starting with a 4 pot but like toby said, there's not a lot of 4 pot stuff that needs changing that won't be changed with the new engine.
we're gonna have a fleet of M30's on here before long!

Nice one chaps - I thought as much but wanted to make sure!
Toby, I will make the effort to get down and see you - looks like I have a buyer for my MG, so there will soon be room in the garage for 3.5 madness.
I've found a 730i manual with aircon for next to nowt, had been umming and arring for ages whether to get it, think ill just go for it because it works sweet as a nut and keep an eye out for a 535i engine over the next month or so.
Can't wait to feel the pace!

Tourings come with vented front discs, solid rear discs and 52mm front struts as standard.
Won't affect the wiring in the slightest, as all facelift E30s have the same engine loom connector, give or take one or two non essential wires, depending on options fitted.
Only dissadvantage of using a four pot touring, is the front springs will need changing for the extra weight, and the only dissadvantage of not using a 325 touring, is you will have a small case diff with an unsuitable ratio.
