Hi all

As some of you will know, I am without an E30

I may have the opportunity to acquire either a Tech I or Tech II in the future :o I must confess that I like the angular looks of a Tech I and the 'old skool' charm they give off.

However, before I do anything, I want to know what the differences are between say a late Tech I and a Tech II 325i Sport.

Where can I find a full technical spec. sheet for a Tech I?

Do parts from a Tech I go straight into a Tech II? Will an interior from a Tech II go into a Tech I? What is the same on both cars?

Grateful for your help.

Cheers

Differences are the obvious bodykit differences, front lower valence is different, as are the foglights, headlights are pre-facelift and are interchangeable, rear lights are pre-facelift and not interchangeable, these are the major differences, interiors are the same, apart from seat pattern designs, and all are interchangeable.

Diffs on tech I sport should be a 3.64, and later sports have a 3.91.

Mtech II sports initially still had the tech I wheel, but changed to the tech II in 1990.

Thanks.

I spotted the obvious ones like the kit but I know nothing about the technicals.

When considering buying a Tech I, what should I be looking out for? I know about Tech IIs and there is a lot on this subject on the zone.

What kind of performance mods. are recommended on a Tech I?

your looking for the same things as the tech 2 Mahmmod, hidden rust. The early ones love to rust, maybe more than the later cars.

perfromance wise same route as any 325i, according toyour budget, cam, chip etc or 2.7 it

have also heard that tech 1s hold there original bhp figures better than tech 2s, due to the higher compression and different pistons.
but i dont know whether this is true or not, correct me if i am wrong people

they usually make their stock power on the rollers, or alot more do that later cars. But not many make stock power anymore!

They are often a bit faster but not alot, bet my old one would keep with yours oz! winkeye

The higher comp makes them feel a bit more lively.

tech 2's (or all face lift cars) had better galvonising hence why they dindt rust as much. Place to be very vary of is the rear panel around the lights, remove the carpet and have a good look for the tin worm (actually applies to both pre and post face lift)

face lifts have slightly more leg room in the rear seat as they reshaped the rear seat bench and rear wheel arch (hence why tech1 kit and tech 2 kits are not easily intergangable). The bumpers are also different as the face lift are mounted in different places.

Interiors as said the same but some tech 1 front seats to not have the contured rear panel allowing more knee room for rear passengers.

but gotta be said tech1 is the better looking in my opinion, if you find a good one grab that!
