I went to buy a heardtop yesterday for the 4 pot wrongness i bought on Saturday. Got there, slammed the roof down, put the hardtop on and it didn't fit  The hardtop was too wide for the car  I thought all E30 hardtops were the same size??? Just as strange the car didn't have the white wholes at the back of the car (Near the hood) that the hardtop slides into. Really strange cause i though all UK e30's were converted to take hardtops from the factory. Any ideas on either of the 2 things i've mentioned? :?

Sounds like you've a) got an incorrect hardtop and b) not ALL regular E30 convertibles are 'hard-top ready' - you have to install the correct fitments to accept hardtops... I know I had to on mine.

The hardtop definitely came off an E30... right?

It looked like it. It was from that Q reg cab i posted up a couple of weeks ago from the Trader asking if peeps would buy it. It was defo too wide for the car and we were all baffled. I'll have to try the Rieger one at the weekend to see if it'll fit :?

Ben,
There were only two types of hardtop available for the E30. The OEM BMW hardtop which came in about 4 or so different colours and the Weismann hardtop which is more rounded at the rear and was normally colour coded at production/order.
Fitting kits to accept the spikes/lugs at the rear were not factory supplied in all cases.
I have an OEM hardtop and have tried out a Weismann both of which fit perfectly.
Sounds like you have a rogue top ????
Post ups some piccies if you can tear yourself away from the swimming pool or wherever you are lounging around at the moment !!!!

:D It looked like an original one cause it was the same as i have on the Rieger. I did find it strange that he wasn't trying to sell the top with the car. I will have to try another one like i said to see if it was a rouge top.

I wanted to take pics of the car on Saturday when i got home, but it was pouring and i left home at 8 am yesterday to go to Wycombe to pic up some brakes, then came straight back here, so never got a chance to take some pics. I have the one's form the trader though so i'll pot them in a mo. Not good winkeye pics, but you'll get the idea

Didn't have time to try the Rieger one mate. I will have to try this weekend. Anyway my mate is looking at another claimed Msport cab with Hardtop as we speak. If i end up buying that too, then i will just sell the cab in question to him :(

the build sheet to my cab says "hard top preparation" and a build code could be that they are not all prepared at the factory maybe you can buy the parts to make it fit
