Old vin number need canbanybody help

I have just bought an obd reader so i can keep on eye on any issues it might get but it wont find the ecu soni have to input the vin manually which wouldnt be a problem except i have engine swaped it from a e39 and didnt make a notr of the vin but i do have the reg from the scrapped e39 which is w477bcp does anybody know how to get vin i have tried certain website but they dont seem to work

You could try giving the guys at Cotswolds a ring the system might still have the reg number linked to the chassis number, otherwise have you tried something like a carvertical check on the reg number? that usually brings up a chassis number.
