Hi folks, I have a 325i auto (non switchable) pre-facelift convertible and now down to the last albeit costly jobs still left to do. One of these is the main engine harness. It is in pretty poor condition with quite a few quite damaged wires that have been taped up and I am considering replacing it. The car runs generally well but does have the odd hiccup.
I am wondering whether anyone has any advice on this, any pitfalls to consider and where best to source a replacement. I appreciate Ebay is a bet for a used one.

Many thanks

IMHO you are better sticking to what you have, at least you know it is the correct loom. Any other loom is likely to have similar issues as they have all had 30+ years of tinkering.

Getting the right loom will also be difficult, there is the PFL/FL C101 issue that can cause a fire (I have a car that this happened to in the past) but there are other differences through the years. Getting your exact loom and getting one in better condition is a bit of an ask these days.

How bad is the one you have? Most will only need new tesa tape and many plugs and pins are still available from BMW

Well I may have spoken too soon. Not sure if I should raise a separate post, but started the car yesterday for the first time in a few weeks. The battery had been dead and recharged.

The car started OK, but was not running well, limping a bit. I tried to drive around the block, got a short distance and the revs suddenly jumped up to 2.5k and bounced off that . The only way to stop it was to turn the engine off and it then refused to start again. It took some time and cranking to get it running again. This was followed by the exact same issue.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I have replaced the fuel pump, ICV is buzzing and car has new spark plugs and leads.

Many thanks
