What it is the go-to solution for this?
Mercedes A class? Corsa (GM) based solution? Its been a while since i searched and haven't been able to find much about it.
I have a purple tag rack installed but everything else i need to source (Pump/Lines etc), so thinking about making the jump to electrickery. (I've also deleted the PAS reservoir bracket from the engine bay, so an all in one setup with reservoir built in has appeal)
Electric PAS pump - Best option?

I haven't seen anyone do it on an E30, I have seen a few other cars use the Volvo unit and there are a few write ups about it.
Thing is the electric units are quite bulky because of the motor. The hydraulic units are small and quite reliable in the most part so no real impetus to change. Plus you need a fairly decent power supply and wiring to run the motor as some of them can pull 100a or more.

I have used an A class pump on a racecar build, works well but it can draw a lot of power at idle speeds, and im sure you would hear it humming away even in a road trim car

Thanks for the feedback. I've done a bit more research and Astra H pump's seem a common/cheap solution.. however as you've both pointed out, require a lot more juice, so a larger alternator is usually required. The noise and space are swaying me back to using the existing PAS pump. @danthe, i'll be intouch for some hydraulic lines.
