I have just removed an E30 external fuel pump and I cannot id the attached parts (see photo) I think one is a regulator/absorber and the other is maybe a filter or accumulator? I checked the haynes manual and the on line parts page but I couldn't find a reference to them!! So any help would be welcome
In the parts catalogue they listed as items 14 and 20 but 20 says its a hose!!!

The small part top left is the damper/absorber

I have never seen the part on the right before, what year is the car?

Thanks for your reply its a 1986 320i Bauer Convertible I have never seen the other bit either but it is connected from the main fuel line from the fuel tank then to the back of the pump.
In the parts diagram it doesn't say what it is either (item 20) but it lists as a hose.

TBH I am not sure if they are really needed or whether something more modern would work better!!!

20 is referred to as a hose because the part shown (an accumulator?) is no longer available or needed. I expect that if you buy 20, you'll get a hose to replace the original that has its end pointing the right way to connect to the pump. Don't think the damper is required any more, either.

Thanks for your reply and your input Amazingly I have seen dampers for sale but I haven't seen accumulators.
