Hi, I need to change the steering rack boots on my 1991 318i.
On closer inspection and research in the service history it seems the original rack was replaced by a “re manufactured” item in 2008. I’m not sure what this rack is and so it is difficult order the correct parts.
Please could anybody identify what I have from the stamped code 7832 501 183
and the attached picture. I have other pictures but can't seem to be able to upload more than one anymore.
Cheers
Help - identify what steering rack I have?

Thanks guys,
All well thanks Mart, bobbing along.
Thanks Dan I thought it looked fairly stock as well but it's just that when I put chassis number into various suppliers it comes up with a boot that has a wider end on the control arm and not the thin one like it has now.
Attached is the sort of boot that crops up with my details.
What I will probably have to do is go to a local steering rack specialist and let them have a look rather than ordering the wrong part online.
Thanks for you help.

They will have fitted a generic chinese boot when it was recon'd
Hence why it hasnt lasted, the outer end should be clamped around a rubber shaped like a large washer, and not to the tie rod itself
If you need some I can put some in the post, I remove them when doing E46 rack conversions and usualy have a few floating around the workshop
