It’s actually up to 1979. It was allowed from 1973 until about couple of years ago but then it was only cars that were registered as historic in the first place. So that would rule out all E30s. Never heard that but black and silver plates are only legal on cars built before 1973 so eventually you will get fined anyway. I have been led to believe that vehicles caught that don't register are looked at manually?
