Kailine full resto
Moderator: martauto
Hi
As in another topic (2012) all my previous messages are gone, I will start here with a new topic.
Currently I have this car in my possession for about 17 years.
During these years it underwent almost a complete restoration which I will update here bit by bit.
This sedan started life in 1988 and has a body kit of a German tuner (back in the days from the eighties) called Kailine.
On this car the kit includes:
- Bilstein suspension
- Kailine steering wheel
- Kailine wheels
- Kailine front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and bootlid spoiler.
Other Kailine options possible back in the day were other grilles and even a turbo kit, but this car didn't came along with it. Also E34 and E32 had similar kits.

underbody redone, complete suspension overhaul incl all bushings, subframes, axle shafts, driveshaft, new 3.91 OS Giken Superlock LSD.
I must say, the car is a joy to drive. The sound of the inlet combined with the exhaust note gives goosebumps, car is always asking for more! Some years ago after receiving new paint and some grille work. However, as the car is used for roadtrips, mountain driving and an occasional Nurburging Nordschleife lap, it's a challenge to keep the car in this state. The fact that I enjoy driving above cleaning also doesn't help

I must admit I have never heard of this tuning company ,but they got this one right fist time.

I too like Steve have never heard of Kailine but they have done a great job with their styling. I can sense the hard work and compassion given to this car. Bravo. I you running RAMA's on there ? Beautiful car!
After break-in it was time for dyno day!
Lots of torque as foreseen, however top end flattens a bit faster than thought, apparently due to airflow.
Could be the size of ITB's which is on the small side, or the valves, or the head.. As it is a streetcar, I am not planning to change the setup as I don't want to lose torque in the quest for finding more hp in the upper range.
Anyhow the car is a beast
Pushed it once towards 7800 rpm, however limiter is set at a save 7000 rpm.

I am not sure what is choking airflow.
Running 40mm ones from RHD, but I am also running Schrick valves with oem diameter, however valve stem towards valve head diameter is significantly smaller than oem valves, which in result should flow more. Head is also ported and polished (again no supercrazy things as the car remains a streetcar where durability for me was important).
Cam should peak at 7000 rpm.

Thanks, appreciated, I was already thinking at future problems so we placed one from Sachs which should withstand 350nm.
Mine is Gregory Blondeel
What do you have as cooling setup? Which water temp are you running?
I switched to a thermastat that opens at 75° or 80°c I believe, placed a new oem radiator (big tropical version), deleted the visco fan and placed an electric one in front of the radiator.
While driving temp is fine, however when idling a bit to long temp rises to 95°c and above. Should find a solution for this as it's not even full summer weather.
