Hello everyone.
I have a 320i cabriolet, year 1991, with electro-mechanical power roof.
The tensioning straps are to be changed, they do not make tension at all.
I looked around for replacements, but the non-original parts I see seems different from mines.
The one I find are a whole elastic band, whereas the old original parts have some small elastic bands along the main strap, see the photos.
In the time, BMW changed the part (old one was 54342230541 superseded by 54311971921), but no images are available.
So, for your experience, how are the tensioning straps I can buy today from BMW?
How good are the non-original straps? They cost less than a half!!!
Are they the same for manual and EM power tops?
Thanks a lot!

The small straps on yours look like something that has been added later instead of replacing them properly.

Agree with what Ben said.
If I recall correctly, replacing the tension straps is a big job as you have to remove the fabric roof to the to the tension straps (which are riveted to the frame).
A workaround out there on the web involves putting some spring back by adding 2x extra elastic bungee straps on each side.

Can't find a picture to explain though...
