Hi Guys,
does anyone out there have a 320i cab? how many miles does it give you to the gallon, mine only gives me about 18 in town and 23 on the motorway, I feel like im always filling up and petrol is not cheap now-a-days. Or is this just common with all 320i cabs??? Bearing in mind I dont thrash the hell out of my car.
Is there anything I can do to improve the mpg of my car?
I hope you guys can help me...

I have a 320i cabby too. Probably the worst economy of all e30s! Uneconomical m20 2litre engine + extra heavy body = poor mpg!
That said I can get a good 31mpg out of mine.
A 325i engine swap will improve things (honest!)
Even a 327i rebuild (you may be able to keep your 320i head and not need to deck it!) with give you a better mpg!!!!!!!!
Failing that an m50 engine will improve things too!
Give it a full service inc plugs and fuel filter, clean the afm, then you should notice a difference.

I also have a 320i cabriolet, and I get about 30mpg on the motorway and about 24mpg round town if I am nice to the car! (I usually average 27mpg per Ԛ£30)
The idle mixture makes a massive difference round town, but check things like the blue temp sensor and the fuel filter as they cost little money, and can make a big difference if broken/clogged

My 320i cab is heavy on fuel over short journeys in town - can be about 20mpg. Much better on a run but rarely above about 26mpg.
Assuming you dont get any petrol vapour smells (leaky injector seals or other bits of perished rubber near the engine that need replacing urgently) then I would certainly check plugs etc - do they look like it's running rich? If so may be worth getting idle mixture checked out.
What sort of town journeys are you doing? Does it get properly warm?

given the amount of crap the roads are covered in @ the mo, I'd suggest a new airfilter of anytype would produce a few extra Mpg, cheap too
