Hi everyone, looking at buying a 325i sport and been told he’s going to do the timing belt and he wants a deposit of £1000 as this is about how much it would cost to do the job, just after some advice on the cost of replacing the timing belt as I feel this is a bit steep. Cheers in advance
Full Continental Belt kit (belt and tensioner) is currently about £45 on Autodoc. Hour or two labour to change depending what you are doing at the same time.Callumjarema wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:57 pmHi everyone, looking at buying a 325i sport and been told he’s going to do the timing belt and he wants a deposit of £1000 as this is about how much it would cost to do the job, just after some advice on the cost of replacing the timing belt as I feel this is a bit steep. Be careful, lots of scams around involving cars like the e30 that ask for big deposits for work or transport.

£1000 to do an M20 Cambelt
complete nut job £45 to £50 parts and Main Dealer labour would only be about £300 tops

I seriously would expect this to take you about 4 or 5 leisurely hours if you've never done it before...taking your time and watching a few tutorials...cost of parts as stated already..1000 quid is a joke...don't do it.

Walk away........far away!!!
If he want £1000 for that job then he is trying to rip you off or has no idea what it takes to do.
The posters before me really know what they are doing
.
Also the word "Sport" can also be used by people selling something else, Has he the V5 ? It will say sport on it ,if not then it is not a sport.
May I ask what price he is asking ?
Mart.

He’s wanting 20k for it, photos look mint, but I think I’m going to go against it. Everything in my head is telling me something is off and “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” applies here nicely.martauto wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 4:57 pmWalk away........far away!!!

I think you have chosen wisely , there have and still are "Sports" out there which turn out not to be sports but his price for a simple job shot himself in the foot
Good hunting .

Better off buying a warty daily driver off someone for half the money - at least it would be a known reliable car with "issues" - then spend the cash you saved on improving it - as far as you want to go -
it's a lot more fun to do this than having something that only needs a polish - and lives in the garage - my belief is that driving it and suffering stone chips, rain damage and mechanical
problems makes it a real car - not a garage queen that you're too nervous to drive ....just my opinion.
