I am in the process of replacing my bonnet Insulation but finding it almost impossible to get the old adhesive off of the underside of the bonnet. So far I have tried soaking with water, panel wipe, alcohol, meths and paraffin but none have worked, obviously can't use thinners.
Has anyone done this job before and had more success. I don't really want to stick the new insulation over the old adhesive.

Save yourself a lot of effort and don't bother, just remove the dry flaky foam. I stuck new foam on old adhesive about 12 years ago and it's still holding firm.

Brake cleaner has been recommended on here in the past.

I've recently done mine and found isopropyl/isopropanol alcohol to work really well with a foam eater used to desolve expanding foam.

I agree with the poster above that says you don't have to get it ALL off. I used sandpaper to remove the big lumpy stuff and didn't touch the paint.
The new insulation stuck on just fine.

If you want to get it off, use white spirit. It will just disintegrate and fall off. Makes it a lot easier to fit the new foam

I second that. White spirit got all the adhesive of really easily
