My car has developed a problem, I started her up this morning and the fan belt screeched, so out with the tools and a quick tighten, I then got in the car and tried to pull out of my parking spot the steering wheel shakes when turning and feels lumpy when turning when the car is low revs, when driving normal the steering seems fine, I have look in the steering fluid and seems plenty of fluid so am unsure what to test next

Which belt did you tighten?
There is a separate one for the steering.

If the fluid is full and it has just started to happen, first things I would try are change belt and while it is off see if the pump turns by hand. If it feels like a bearing is gone then it might be the pump.Corasdad wrote: βMon Jul 04, 2022 6:23 pmMy car has developed a problem, I started her up this morning and the fan belt screeched, so out with the tools and a quick tighten, I then got in the car and tried to pull out of my parking spot the steering wheel shakes when turning and feels lumpy when turning when the car is low revs, when driving normal the steering seems fine, I have look in the steering fluid and seems plenty of fluid so am unsure what to test next

According to realoem it is correct for a '90 318i 4-door.
Nothing to say something hasn't been changed like the alternator. If it won't tighten then you may have to get one 10-20mm smaller
