I’m afraid I’m somewhat (maybe even more) disappointed with the quality of the AFM gasket though. It’s not for for purpose. The old one was cork, nice and thick. The new one is basically a piece of paper. Is there a way to provide feedback to BMW HQ about this?

We do not have a mechanism to that I am afraid, to be honest I am surprised it is still available.

I have worked for BMW for 37 years now and I cannot remember ever seeing a throttle housing gasket like the one on the right.

It's weird for sure (the old gasket that is) - but it has markings for orientation etc. so that you can't put it in the wrong way. Maybe it was a high quality 3rd party replacement to compensate for the thin piece of paper that is the OE gasket
