Doing a rear end restore here at the moment on my 325 and I’m for having the parts sandblasted but not sure what to paint the parts with, I don’t want to go down the powdercoat route I’d rather be hands on myself and paint it etc with rattle cans after it has been primed of course.
I will also be painting the callipers and heat resistant plates so any recommendations is appreciated
Thanks
Rear subframe restore

Any Epoxy Mastic will be fine. There are lots of manufacturers, the Jota stuff above will be fine although technically the Jotamastic 87 can be used on its own, does not need a top coat as epoxy mastics are not porous like primers are.
You can get them different colours but if you want the satin look then you will need a top coat like the HB or do some clever spray work.
I have used self colour EM121 thinned 20% and sprayed but deft work with a small roller and small corner brush would do just as well.
Trick is preparation, I would remove all the lose rust, kill anything left with something like Jenolite. Important thing is if you happen do find any clean metal do make sure it is well keyed.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but if you've had it sand blasted, and plan to rattle can the paint on. Be prepared to take it all back off again soon and redo it. Powder coating is cheap to have done, will last and probably look better in th long run too.

Jotamastic 87 is not UV stable so will chalk over time. Suppose it doesn't matter much on underside thoughflybynite wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 10:54 amAny Epoxy Mastic will be fine. Yes that is the same as any Epoxy Mastic but on chassis or subframe they do not get much UV and it does not affect the integrity of the covering, Jota 87 is still rated for outside above water use but it doesn't hurt to do it belt and braces
The 121 and Bilt Hamber stuff I use does not have a dedicated top coat, if it is visible I paint over it and it generally gets 2 coats anyway so same difference I guess!
