Just bought my 320 today! My fuel guage reading is totally out. I put in Ԛ£20 of petrol adn it went to quarter full and then emptied quite quickly even though the car is running fine. Does anyone know how I can sort it to be more accurate. Also the econometer says im doing 10mpg when i lean on the throttle gently yet i know this isn't true. Again does anyone know of a way of making this more accurate. thanks.

Your fuel tank holds 62 litres. I suggest you run the car untill the fuel warning light comes on (approx. 6 litres left), put 10 litres of fuel in, and see where the needle goes, then put three lots of 15 litres in, checking where the gauge settles in between. I would do this at four different garages to avoid strange looks, possible arrest under the prevention of terrorism act, and to give the gauge time to settle in between.
When your econ gauge reads 10 MPG, that might well be what you are doing at that moment. You can learn a lot about driving style from that gauge.

ive also got a similar problem... when my gauge goes just under the red (no reserve light comes on), i can only put in Ԛ£23 petrol, that would make it full to the brim... when i start the car, the gauge shows 3/4 full. ive tried another sender unit and another fuel gauge pod.... its still the same!!!!

Will give it a go when ive got some more money. At the moment ive just discovered the body wasnt quite as good as i thought and am contemplating breaking if I find any more. A new sill for one and poor crash repair that i didnt spot DOH!When i was getting 10mpg i was driving unbelievebly gently. I know the 320 isnt exactly economical but I get just under 40mpg out of my mondeo 2.0 driving the same way.

Remember that leaking batteries in your SI board can cause inaccurate fuel gauge readings. I had a 318i once which read half empty when it was in fact full, fot this very reason. Covered myself in fuel many times trying to fill a full tank. Looked like a tool and felt like a fool.
