I think the words, "solid state" within the BMW instruments puts the block on that idea. it is on so many components I don't think that it will be possible to get a 'foreign' or 'after market' unit to read the BMW inputs correctly. I have just fitted an Opel Astra 'digi-dash' to a VW 1966 based kit car but it is analogue inputs from analogue outputs so only the speedo input pulses to sort out via a hall effect trigger- But good luck with it.
