I purchased the car in 1990 in South Africa. In 1995 I imported it into England. I once again moved country and continent and brought it to Australia in 2008.

I did up until 2018 and then I decided to buy a 1-series (before they became front wheel drive).

Indeed. Stunning condition for the mileage. Probably very rare to have A/C on a 318i also...

To keep the price as affordable as possible, air-conditioning was the only extra I specified. White paint, standard wheels and no central locking, to avoid the usual extras they try to get you to buy. I had the Sanyo radio/tape player installed the year after I bought the car, it was less expensive than a genuine BMW one.

The air-conditioning is currently not working. In order to import the car into Australia, I had to have the system converted from R12 to R134a. I don't know if the conversion was a contributing factor, but the compressor failed not very long after I got the car here. I had the compressor replaced about ten years ago and the replacement compressor stopped working some time last year.

Certainly quite rare in the UK - none of my four six-pot 320i/325i E30s had it fitted, despite a couple being SE spec and one a Sport.

I think the difference is that in the UK A/C was a luxury but in most parts of SA, OZ and the US it was a necessity 8O

Yes. There is a dual tank arrangement giving a capacity of 75 litres.

Other different features on this model are the sump guard and the integrated reflectors in the headlights.

The best sumpguard ever made for an E30, shame about the headlights though, looks like they have water in them :D

Red reflectors are found in the rear light clusters of most cars, in South Africa white reflectors on the front of the car were also required. On the E12 they were attached to the under-bumper turn indicators, on the E30 they were built into the headlights.
