Once again I am having to save the car from being 'written off' ,

Insurance approved repairer estimate was 900€ plus labour. reticulates.

As you can see the horrendous amount of damage to the mini Cooper that claimed I cut across in front of him so he hit me at 45 degrees, like hell I did.
Image

Barely a mark on the front of the Mini. Just along top of wheel arch.

Image
Obviously hit from the rear, impact was about 15cm from front of door, (new strip 70€ inc P&P) then tyre hit back edge of wing and stuffed it onto the wheel, no side impact at all. :x

Image
Good new is, this arrived . :-D

I had to get my ex-wife to buy it on eBay UK and then find a courier willing to ship it. ended up with DHL via a shipping company and then had to pay 80€ import duty and VAT.

Due to the lack of damage on the mini, and the fact your wing has been peeled forward, it seems pretty obvious to me that the mini's tyre has done this, the only way possible is if the wheels were pointing to the right, hence the mini turned into you

That is what happened. BUT try convincing the insurance companies of that. They just want to clear the books with as little trouble as possible, AKA work.

Being a little bit older than most on here at 75 I remember a time when YOUR insurgence company fought tooth and nail on your behalf, not so now, it's all one big cartel.

Not given a choice, no investigation took place I was just TOLD. damage was 900€ plus labour ??? and car value is 500€.

I retained the car to repair and 600€ BUT as I am not a registered garage (one of the cartel) I have to have the repair inspected by their assessor before they will re insure it.

I am having to repair it where it sits in the communal underground parking as they will not insure it again until it has had the repair inspected , so I can't drive it to my 'shed' so I have to strip it there, get new wing painted in my 'shed' and then fit it in the parking.

Only difficult bit I can see is the door is bent in by the hinge so getting behind it to push it out might mean removing the door.

Already loosened the bumper and moved forward to access the screws. the bumper (5 minuets)
removed wing (10 minuets)
removed door trim (10 seconds)
Clean door trim channel (2 minuets)

Only damage under the wing once it was removed was removing the part that had ripped off of the inside of the wing and bending the two tabs straight again.

Ready to pull dent out of the door using PDR system and refit wing after painting.
Just need some trim clips (2) and front trim fixing (1) .

Seems the wing has been delayed because the "direct sales" seller is in fact a drop shipper and is waiting on HIS supplier to send it.

You could move it with a trailer if you have a mate with one/can afford to rent
Probably cost you 50 quid for a short distance

Grua, (trailer/lorry, would cost 120€ for 45Km.

Decided to do it downstairs, being (very) old school I can work anywhere so wing is already off and waiting (again for drop shipping) wing, I will then paint it and then fit it downstairs.
Then I can get the work inspected and insurgence issued.

Update;

Pictures of the car at the moment awaiting the wing. Only 'repair' needed was bending the two tabs to 90 degrees again, no other damage, the old wing is trashed having the fixing section ripped off.

Image

Slight dent forward of top bracket,

Image

Image

Little deny on lower trim channel and a curving in about 10" by5", will pull out with PDR.

Not to bad, new wing and all good again. certainly not 900€ worth of repairs.

600ml of 2K 146 paint has arrived complete with jug, filter and tips, oh, and a stirring stick. very good service and fast GLS delivery. All for the price of a couple of rattle cans,

Wing here tomorrow from France via Madrid and side moulding here from Italy already, so just a couple of clips from BMW locally and just spray and fettle the door, I have bought my PDR kit home from the 'shed' and a few items, (wedge, crowbar etc) to get the front concave curve of the front of the door sorted, not a lot of damage done there.

Wing arrived today, very pleased with the quality, same gauge as the original, galvanised and in black prime as usual. Brand new made by EMBO in Italy and 76.94€ including TNT delivery. from Mecatechnic in France

( so, an Englishman in Spain orders an Italian part from a French firm and it all works,)

Tomorrow off to the 'shed' and get the ,so far, unused spray gun off the hook crank up the compressor and get spraying, should have it on by Saturday and finish trim and touch up door Monday ready for accessors inspection and reinsurance .

900€

I am so chuffed with the results of my first 2K paint job and the wing looks so good it puts the rest of the car to shame.

Not only did 'pintamecoche.com come up with the goods at a very good price but it was a kit too, filters, tack clothe measure jug.
just mixed the 'ready to go' paint with the harder 2:1 and popped into my new and unused 'Parkside' spray gun from Lidl and only changed spray 90 degrees and off I went, perfect light first coat, waited 15 minuets and second coat went on a treat.
Rather than risk moving the still soft paint Friday I left it strapped to the stand to be collected 20 hours later today.

Yeah - clearly there's some skill required from the user, but it still amazes me how good some of these low-cost tools are nowadays.

Certainly as good as when I used a DeVilbiss spray gun for motorcycle and scooter resprays. It's all in the wrist ya know.

Next job will be my eagle SS in deep black 2K

New wing on and ready for trimming as soon as I find the missing clips, here somewhere. It fitted perfectly although a couple of small variations from the original, a little shorter on the flange by the scuttle, the section between the two screws on the nose was too large so difficult to get the top screw in until I 'formed' it. but other than that there is a spare hole between the first and second screw that isn't there on the right wing (from a '88 318) but lines up with an unused hole on the chassis, Anyway, it's on and looking (too) good. .

Door is proving to be a bit more of a challenge. I have the little dent out but the big dent seems to have stretched the skin and getting it 'flat' again is proving difficult. I just pushed from the inside with my hand it is went from concave to convex, so more needed there.

Only pig of a job was fitting the two screws by the door, first the bottom clip kept moving as the wing slides on, then I couldn't get my size 9 hands up inside to put the screws in, scratched up a bit.

Nope, I think you are thinking of the Nova, which was made in a few places by several companies, like ADA, similar body but a lift up roof/door system not gull wing like the SS,

Last Eagle SS was made in 1998. (1981-1998) mine is a 1995 MkIII. VW based.

Yes, VW based, but many have converted to different engines like Alpha or Subaru engines, I just tuned the hell out of mine, I am a great fan of getting more from small rather than go bigger.

That is about 4K right there, plus labour.

Power is around 110BHP and max at 7500 rpm, this is possible due to the high RPM components like H section rods, lightweight clutch , valve gear, etc, Duel DelLorto DRHL 40 with 34mm chokes, contact-less ignition and a modified Ahnendorp B:A:S exhaust system. and my excellent port work.

Suspension is 'slightly' modified and Wilwwod 4 pot stoppers etc.

Certainly looks very impressive, all the work you've put into it. Loving the little details, like the side repeater lamps made from two Cooper S ones. 8)

Do you have any video clips of the digital dashboard working, and driving it? winkeye

Nearly there. Wing is on and I have managed to get 99% of the door straight, just a small dent where his wheel hit, (after I cut in front of him, bulls**t)

Door and wing trims are in the boot waiting on BMW to come up with new clips on Monday morning.
took a lot of pulling using a PDR kit, the hot glue has to be just right or pulls off before any significant change takes place, so lots of glue and repeated pulls but it went OK, a piece of wood and a club hammer from inside, around the hinge area took care of the shut line.
Image Image
Ready for trim and skirt.

Image
Pretty straight, big dent has gone anyway.
Image
Noticed the body line wing to door is a bit off, trim sits level but wing is 2mm lower, not much I can do, lift the wing puts the trim out of line, I will try to loosen the two flange and skirt screws and lift it 2mm.. Can but try.

Image
Just a small dent to be sorted, a pea sized blob of filler and a spray.

Many thanks for the offer but I am sure BMW will come up with them on Monday morning.

I have had to stop getting stuff from the UK since July 1st as it takes weeks to get here via customs, however small a packet.
I have a 10" tablet with keyboard held up in customs for 6 weeks, 3 weeks just looking at the paperwork. It is a nightmare.

I reshaped my boot badge to curve it as I was told off for having two front badges. I don't use the enamelled alloy ones as they get killed in our heat, the sun just rips the enamel off so plastic¡c it is. easy to bend and 40€ cheaper.

Although the new wing is a good quality it does have some dimension issues. The distance from wheel arch to door is about 10mm longer. The swage line is 3mm out. The top corner by the windscreen needed 'shaping to clear'. The nose where the two screws are had to be 'relieved' so it went on fully but apart from that, all good.

All done, photo as submitted to the insurgence company so I can re insure it.

4 new trim clips from BMW, 4€, cheapest genuine parts ever.

Now just the under tray to fit, after I make a mould of it and I would like to fit new chrome window strips as original.

Image
Image

Soon as I can legally drive it I will pop to my garage, 'the shed' and give the bonnet and right wing a coat of 2K to match the brilliant shine on the left wing.
